The Famous Surrealist Miro

Love, Love Miro for Children!   I always make a master for the kids to observe and copy.
Please feel free to copy any of these ideas for your class.

Mondrian

Painted, collage, or crayon...we love Mondrian!

Famous Artist - Wayne Thiebaud

Sheldon Art Gallery in Lincoln, Nebraska displays paintings that one would like to lick.
Wayne Thiebaud is known for his delectable baked goods done in thick, rich paint.
Here we pay tribute to an artist of pastry.

Famous Artist Paul Klee Head of Man

Klee's original painting that is copied.

Four and five year old can handle this just fine. I might help some with breaking the face into shapes for them to color with crayons. Head is cut from white paper, shoulders from brown paper and then glued onto orange. This is an education for the parents as well who are not familiar with art history.
I always image google the work to get a black and white image to attach so the parents understand
the origin and the name of artist and time period.

Native American Object Trays for Cultural Studies

The first tray is well used and full of interesting Native American dolls.
Being a Montessori teacher means searching garage and estate sales and the Salvation Army for that one cast off item that would be perfect in your cultural studies or geography shelves.
Over the years they add up to a pretty nice collection and for pennies, too.

These trays teach vocabulary, culture, science and design.
Each object makes for interesting conversation at line time.

June 2011 Unit of Native American Indian Art

This summer we made many beautiful art works with a Native American theme. The summer is mainly arts based at my school and I hope others can find these posts useful for their class. If you are new to my blog, I have many other ideas in other subjects to share with you! Please take a look and find a new lesson for your children to enjoy!
